• Canon Point: The end of Scream VI which is set in late October 2023

• Character History: Scream Wiki

• Character Personality:

— Loner: Driven away from her family by guilt and secrecy, Sam was on her own since she turned eighteen until she returned to Woodsboro at 25. The one person she confided in during that time, her boyfriend Richie, turned out to be a serial killer fashioning himself after Sam's infamous father. Needless to say, Sam has trust issues. She erects and maintains a wall between herself and others, even those she lives with. She doesn't volunteer information about herself, doesn't entertain strangers, and doesn't really live a life of her own. Tara calls her out for working two shitty jobs to help with rent but having no plan for her life, but in Sam's defense, she is still reeling from learning the truth about Richie. Even when she starts seeing Danny, the cute boy from the apartment across the hall, she keeps their relationship secret, not trusting her judgment enough to bring someone new into the fold. Gale recognizes a fellow loner in Sam and tells her that she can still make her own family. Sam has begun to find that family with her fellow survivors, but it will take time and work for her to trust anyone outside of that circle.

— Protective: Sam is highly protective of her loved ones, especially her younger sister Tara. This stems in part from the immense guilt Sam carries because Tara was attacked for being her sister. Sam is always making up for something, whether it be her heritage or her own mistakes. She deeply regrets abandoning Tara and doubles down on protecting her, to the point that Tara feels suffocated and begs Sam to back off. When a new killer targets Sam and her friends in New York City, Sam proposes a self-sacrificial play wherein she gives herself up to spare the others. No one is on board with her suggestion, with Tara citing how Sam is always protecting others. A reluctant Sam agrees to stand down, but she has to be talked into letting the others protect her for a change. Not only does she see it as her job to do the protecting, but she also doesn't see herself as someone deserving of protection.

— Self-Improvement: Sam doesn't think of herself as a good person but she is always trying her best to be better. By her own admission, Sam was a troubled teenager who drank heavily, used "every drug [she] could get [her] hands on," and got in trouble with the law. Cut off from her family, Sam would have had to overcome alcohol and substance abuse without any support system, on top of supporting herself financially with only a high school diploma and a juvenile criminal record. When we catch up with her at the age of 25, she is still working a dead-end job but she is making ends meet and remains in treatment for her various mental health struggles. Prone to self-loathing, Sam doesn't recognize just how remarkable that is.

— Avoidant: Sam's first instinct is always to run. When she couldn't bear to keep hiding a part of herself, she bailed on her younger sister and fled town. When Tara is attacked a second time, Sam's plan once more is to skip town, hoping to outrun the killer. The only reason she doesn't run when the killings follow her to New York City is that she is a person of interest in the case and legally barred from leaving town. Circumstances usually conspire to keep Sam from following through but the urge to flee is always at the forefront.

— Secretive: You could say that Sam's secretiveness was passed down from her mother, Christina. By lying about Sam's true parentage, Christina made sure that Sam was born with something to hide, even if she wouldn't know it for years. When Sam, aged thirteen, discovered the secret of her birth, it tore her family apart, driving away the father who raised her. This was the first of several instances teaching Sam that bad things happen when her secrets get out. Years later, Sam's younger sister Tara was stabbed nearly to death because someone discovered Sam's real father was Billy Loomis and tried to emulate him. When her secret broke containment and spread across the internet, conspiracy theories posited Sam as the mastermind behind the most recent killings. Life has taught her that the less people know about her, the better, so Sam continues to keep things close the chest.

— Darkness Within: "There is a darkness inside of me," Sam admits to her therapist. Another inherited trait, this darkness was passed down from her biological father, serial killer Billy Loomis. Deep down, Sam recognizes something savage inside of her that could only have come from him. This darkness has been instrumental to her survival both times she has been targeted by copycat Ghostface killers. Unleashed, it's the thing that enabled her to stab Richie Kirsch twenty-two times, slit his throat, and shoot him in the head. But outside of fighting for her life, or the life of someone she considers family, Sam does her best to keep it buried. She often argues with visions of Billy Loomis, manifestations of her darkest urges that push her to let loose. Scared of trusting her own judgment, Sam looks to her loved ones for guidance. When she spares Detective Bailey's life, telling him "my father was a murderer... No matter what you think, I'm better than that," it's Tara who gives Sam the green light to kill him anyway. Darkness or not, you don't fuck with Sam's family.

• Character Skills: Sam's most relevant skill is her ability to handle weapons without hesitation. Despite no formal training, she has effectively wielded a small variety of knives and guns against motivated killers. She is also very resourceful, thinks fast on her feet, and knows a lot about proper care for puncture wounds.

• Character Inventory:

— ITEM ONE: Buck 120 General hunting knife
— ITEM TWO: Pack of cigarettes with lighter tucked inside
— ITEM THREE: Prescription pill bottle containing antipsychotic medication

• Important Notes: Sam is currently taking antipsychotic medication. Whether this medication is actually effective for her is up for debate. Despite routinely taking her medicine, Sam experiences hallucinations of her dead biological father whenever the plot requires it. In Sam's visions, Billy Loomis gives voice to her deepest fears and darkest impulses. Thus, these visions seem to be a manifestation of Sam's insecurities about herself rather than actual instances of psychosis. Unlike clinical psychosis, Sam never loses touch with reality and always recognizes that what she is seeing is not actually there. Furthermore, she only sees visions of Billy in reflective surfaces, setting him up as her dark mirror. By my own interpretation, Sam's hallucinations are not meant to be a realistic portrayal of mental illness but used as a narrative tool to express her inner turmoil.

Nevertheless, Sam takes her meds regularly and will experience some level of withdrawal without a reliable supply. Upon realizing her predicament, she will attempt to wean herself off of the medication, hoping to limit withdrawal symptoms as much as possible. Any withdrawal symptoms she does experience should subside after a week.

Sam also has some fresh injuries, the most significant being a deep cut across her right bicep and a stab wound near her right shoulder. Both injuries have been tended to and dressed by paramedics, and Sam knows how to care for them going forward, but she'll have to be careful to avoid infection.
